However, they differ significantly in material properties, machining parameters, and overall costs. Understanding these differences allows engineers and buyers to optimize CNC parts design for higher efficiency and more economical production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Material Hardness &amp; Machinability<\/strong> Aluminum alloys have relatively low hardness (typically 15\u2013120 HB), resulting in minimal cutting resistance and excellent machinability. High spindle speeds (200\u2013500 m\/min) and large feed rates can be used, leading to fast machining cycles and low tool wear. Steel (especially carbon steel or stainless steel) is much harder (150\u2013300 HB+), generating higher cutting forces, requiring lower speeds (50\u2013150 m\/min), longer cycle times, and noticeably increased <strong>tool wear<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thermal Conductivity &amp; Cooling Requirements<\/strong> Aluminum has high thermal conductivity (~205 W\/m\u00b7K), allowing heat to dissipate quickly\u2014often enabling dry machining or minimal coolant use. Steel\u2019s lower thermal conductivity (~50 W\/m\u00b7K) causes heat to build up easily, risking workpiece distortion or tool burning. Abundant coolant is usually required, which increases CNC machining cost.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Surface Finish &amp; Dimensional Accuracy<\/strong> Aluminum\u2019s softness enables very smooth surface finishes, but thin-walled features are prone to deformation and require optimized fixturing\/clamping. Steel offers superior rigidity and dimensional stability, making it ideal for <strong>tight tolerance<\/strong> parts, though additional post-processing is often needed to achieve desired surface roughness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cost &amp; Typical ApplicationsAluminum CNC machining<\/strong> delivers faster speeds, longer tool life, and lower per-part costs\u2014perfect for lightweight components in aerospace, automotive, and electronics.
