What is Stack Mold?
Stack mold, also known as stacked mold or multi-layer mold, is an advanced mold technology in the injection molding industry. It stacks two or more sets of cavities vertically in layers to create a multi-level cavity structure. This is equivalent to installing multiple single-layer molds on one injection molding machine. Multiple products can be produced in a single injection cycle, significantly improving production efficiency.
What Products Are Suitable for Stack Molds?
Stack molds are particularly suitable for producing large flat products, shallow-cavity shell-type items, small multi-cavity thin-wall parts, and high-volume standardized products. Examples include food containers, medical consumables, thin-wall packaging boxes, mobile phone cases, automotive interior panels, and other products with relatively flat shapes that do not require extremely high cooling uniformity. These products can fully utilize the advantage of simultaneous multi-layer molding in stack molds.
Advantages of Stack Molds
The biggest advantage of stack molds is that they double or even multiply production efficiency. Output can increase by one time or more within the same cycle, while significantly reducing the cost per piece. Compared with conventional injection molds, stack molds only require 5%-10% more clamping force. There is no need to purchase larger injection machines, allowing direct use on existing equipment and saving factory space, machinery, and labor costs.
In addition, stack molds improve equipment utilization and shorten delivery cycles, making them ideal for high-volume, low-cost competitive markets. However, their mold structure is more complex and the initial design and manufacturing costs are higher, so they are best suited for long-term, large-batch production scenarios.
