Additive manufacturing is optimizing mold design: Research by Germany’s Fraunhofer IWU demonstrates that using metal 3D printing (LPBF process) to produce topology-optimized conformal cooling molds has yielded significant results. In lab tests, mold weight was reduced by 34%, while the injection cycle time was shortened by 60% due to improved cooling efficiency.
